John Eby, 87, Dies at Maybee Home MAYBEE, April 4 - John Eby, who reached his eighty-seventh birthday March 28, died shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday at the Eby home on the Creek road about five miles north of Maybee. Mr. Eby was one of the township's pioneer settlers coming to this section with his parents when he was 6 years old. He was born in Alsace, France. His father, John Eby, first settled in Raisinville township on the Leicht road east of Maybee. When the younger Mr. Eby married Miss Elizabeth Schoup they moved to Exeter township. For the last 30 years the family has resided at the present home. Eleven children, ten of them living, were born to the couple. The children are: Mrs. Josephine Bruck, Joseph Eby, Theodore Eby, and William Eby, all of Exeter township; Lawrence Eby of Ash township; Emil Eby, Mrs. Julia Lechler and Mrs. Lena Steffes of Monroe, Mrs. Clara Steffes of Detroit and Miss Dorothy Eby, a nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo. Mrs. Sophia Sheets died several years ago. The wife and one sister, Mrs. Emil Bitz of Maybee, also survive. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Stony Creek with the Rev. Fr. Mahr, assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery at Monroe., Monroe Evening News, Monroe, Michigan.
