Donald Clarke Eby, 83, of Fremont, Ind., and formerly of Montgomery, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Cameron Hospital, Angola, Ind.Born April 28, 1926 in Perry, Mich., he was the son of Ezra and Ruth (East) Eby. He graduated from Napoleon High School and Eastern Michigan University. His teaching and coaching career included the Whitehall, Camden-Frontier and Reading Community Schools. Don served in the US Army during World War II and belonged to the Montgomery American Legion. He was also a member of the MEA, NEA, MEA-R, and the Montgomery United Brethren Church. He was especially honored in being elected to the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Lois (Vetal) Eby, whom he married July 1, 1949; one daughter,Wendy (Kenneth) Wilcox of Rochester, Minn.; three sons, Craig (Rachel) Eby of Tokyo, Japan, Dean (Melinda) Eby of Camden, Brent (Brenda) Eby of Fremont, Ind.; two sisters, Darlene (Billy) Melvin of Englewood, Fla., Dorothy (Richard) Jedele of Bradenton, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with interment following in Camden Cemetery.
