- Last Rites Held for R. L. "Bob" Hord, Ex-City Judge
Funeral services for R. L. "Bob" Hord, 80, City Judge here for more than 20 years, were held May 10 at 2 p.m. at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home with burial in Brookside Cemetery. The Rev. Kavanaugh Loy and Dr. J. Chester Badgett were in charge of the services. Hord died at his home at 301 Jackson Street, Sunday, May 8, at 6:10 p.m. after a lingering illness. He was chief of police here for nine years and was also in the restaurant and grocery business. A member of the City Council for several years, was City Judge for 20 years prior to his death. He was branch manager for Cumberland Wholesale Grocery Company for a period of five years and was at one time a driver for the Standard Oil Company here. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and for more than 25 years was a member of Pitman Lodge #124 F&AM. Born July 21, 1874, in Taylor County, he was the son of the late Henry Hord and Mrs. Alice Gowdy Hord, and was the last surviving member of a family of eight children. He married Miss Maggie Stiles on June 30, 1910. Besides his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were R. D. and Charlie Stiles, George R. Buckner, Jack Edrington, Garnett Daughtery, John Bailey. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Graham, C. H. Williams, R. W. Buckner, George Bertram, Bob Wilson and Bud Spratt. ~The News-Journal, May 12, 1955
- Mr. Henry C. Hord, well known not only in Campbellsville and Taylor County but throughout the state as an Editorial writer of wide reputation, died last Sunday evening at 1:45 in this city, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. R. Fleece. Mr. Hord lived to be 80 years, six months, and one day of age. He was a very brilliant man and a splendid citizen. He was a man that made friends of everybody and all who knew him loved him. In his writings for the News-Journal, and the dailies won for himself a fame as a great writer of national and international events. Locally he was popularly known as "Marse Henry II" and truly resembled late "Marse Henry Watterson" of Louisville, Ky. Mr. Hord was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, and lived a consistent Christian life. He is survived by his wife, five sons, Clayton and Robert of this city, George and Henry of Indiana, and Charles of California; two daughters, Mesdames C. R. Fleece and J. W. Pruett of this city. Also survived by two brothers, R. F. Hord of this city and S. R. Hord of Huntsville. Besides several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the home by Rev. H. S. Summers, pastor of the Baptist church of this city assisted by the pastor of the Methodist church, Rev. J. L. Piercy also of this city. The interment took place at Brookside Cemetery. To the bereaved relatives and friends we extend our sincere sympathy. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, March 23, 1922
