Notes |
- Ezra Eby states he was born in 1685 Indiana Emmental, Bern, Switzerland. It has since been proven, by Dieter Eby Newman (2005) that is not so. (166)(194) (See above)
Ezra Ebys book states John had four daughters, no names given, and was married, but again, no name was given for a wife. This has since been proven incorrect by "The Eby Report" by Groff 1978.
"There is nothing on any document we have found or know of that suggests that John Eby was married or had any children as Ezra Eby and numerous other Eby historians have reported. His estate was filed by a bond dated 28 Dec 1745/46 before Samuel Blundson, Susan Wright and Rheda Peterson by Peter Eby, Christian Eby and Martin Groff, the father of Peter Ebys second wife Barbara Groff. His inventory tells us that he was engaged in a good sized milling business." --Dawn Eby Quast
This is also true in Dieter Eby Newmans book, He too could find no indication that Johannes ever married or had children.

Johannes (John) Eby
We have not clearly established the date or place of birth for John Eby 2, but we believe it to be around 1685, in Emmenthal, Berne, Switzerland. After the death of Durst Eby 1, John Eby 2, purchased from Martin Kendig and Hans Herr the rights for the 307 Acre land tract which was surveyed for his father on October 24, 1724, and made other improvements which allowed him to apply for a patent.
In 1739, his brother-in-law, Henry Bare passed away and he was appointed executer of his estate and while he was preparing an inventory of this estate and before the patent he had applied for was issued John Eby 2 died and was probably buried in the family plot next to his father Durst Eby !.
John Eby 2 died Intestate and unmarried. There is nothing on any document we have found or know of that suggests that John Eby @ had any children as Ezra Eby and numerous other Eby historians have reported. His estate was filed by a bond dated December 28, 1745/6 before Samuel Blandon, Susan Wright, and Rheda Paterson by Peter Eby 2?s second wife Barbara Groff. His inventory, which was taken by Peter Soomey, Wolf Nicomer, Martin Grove (Groff) and Samuel Evans, tells us that he was engaged in a good sized milling business.
The listing of Johannes (John) Eby 2 is essentially as we have reported it in the first volume of ?The Eby Report? with the exception being the correction of a few dates.
